Alaska Hotel, Hotel Seward

Hotel Seward is the “Alaska Hotel”. In 1905 William & Mary McNeiley, built the most modern hotel of it’s time, then known as The Seward Hotel, in Seward Alaska. Seward Alaska was a thriving coastal community capitalizing on it geographic location at the head of Resurrection Bay, the furthest ice frees port of the USA. Alaska was the last frontier and the Alaska Railroad was supplying the territory with rail access from its headquarters in Seward Alaska. Seward was the hub of Alaska’s commerce and Hotel Seward was the place to stay when arriving by steamship, or coming to Seward for business or pleasure. Alaska’s Hotel, Hotel Seward with it’s 24 modern rooms, running water, flush toilets, and climate controlled steam heated rooms, was known as the finest hotel in Seward and the place to stay.

Hotel Seward is now one property consisting of 62 rooms, with two wings the Alaskan and Historic. The historic Seward Hotel was almost completely remodeled in 2009, with its most notable change, the addition of Ms. Gene’s Place Lounge in the front lobby. The Alaska Hotel wing was added to the property in the early ninety’s, mimicking and complementing the Alaska Hotel Theme. Today’s visitors can have a choice between the larger more plushly appointed rooms of the Alaskan Wing, or the novelty and more humble, historic room. Both Hotel Seward wings today combine continuing the Alaska Hotel theme, as an Alaskan boutique style hotel featuring a Wildlife, History Display, Great rooms, fabulous food, welcoming everyone as a cherished guest.

No longer the “Hub of Alaska’s commerce”, Seward still has many attractions to offer.
