I live on the east coast and will be making recommendations to my network of friends and relatives to call the Fish House and ask for Trent and Neil to take them fishing. Additionally, I never saw a harder working deckhand as Neil. During the three-hour boat ride back to the dock, the guy never took a break the entire time. He filleted all the fish and thoroughly scrubbed and cleaned the Servant from bow to stern non-stop.

The rooms are quite small, allowing for just enough space for the bed, a dresser, and a small table. Nothing spectacular, but it was very clean and our windows looked directly over the main streets of Banff. The bed wasn’t the most comfortable, but I couldn’t complain. Service was friendly, though our only contact with the hotel staff was for checking in and checking out, so I didn’t have much contact with them. It is a little noisy due to being on the main street, but it’s also conveniently located above many restaurants and one of the popular clubs Hoodoo. Rose’s restaurant next door is good if you like good plain American food and plenty of it. If you prefer a filet mignon with arugula and beet foam, you should get in the car and look elsewhere. The room needed new carpet and updated bathroom, but clean and for the price it was just fine. Nice staff and very accomodating and efficient. Great location for walking anywhere in the town…and away from the touristy/cruise ship area. Review – “My husband and I as well as another couple stayed at the Pioneer Inn in Homer for 3 days, 2 nights during our 10 day trip to Alaska. The Inn was perfect for us – bedroom in the back, front room had 2 beds, tv, and a small kitchenette. One bathroom, all was fine, but the bathroom is in the back bedroom – just something to consider. The owner is Rich – he was great. We drank our coffee with him every morning and discussed options of things to do, places to go, restaurants, etc. He gave us a lot of great ideas and good history on the town. While we were there, we ate at Fat Olives, Sourdough Express and a little diner right down the street from the Inn (cannot remember the name) but they were all excellent. We walked from the Inn to the Homer Spit – a little bit of a walk, but truly enjoyable, and you can definitely make a day of it. The Homer Spit is all it is noted for in other reviews – touristy but with tons of great views, shops, restaurants and charters. Overall, a really great place for the money! The room was very clean, especially the bathroom which is a stckler for me. There is also a small, empty refrigerator in the room which was left open and left a slight smell in the room. An ironing board and iron is not available in the room and there is no option for movies. Of course no room service but lots of restaurants close by. There is an interesting notice left on the bathroom sink that asks the guest to use the supplied “rag” for removing make-up or cleaning up dirty things rather than using the good linens (which are OK but postage stamp size.) I did not feel unsafe or worried during my stay as a single woman. They do not have a working key card entrance in the back door but this town is not too large, so it did not bother me….if it were the city then perhaps I would be concerned! I would not choose this location over the Holiday Inn Express (down the street) but it was comfortable, clean and quiet. The pool was clean and seemed to be a draw for families.
